Dentin, the middle layer of a tooth, is made up of tiny openings called tubules. Inside each tubule lies a nerve fibre that comes from the tooth’s pulp (the centre of the tooth). The dentin is usually protected by enamel. However, when this layer is exposed, cold or hot temperature can affect these nerve fibres. |
