  Episode #7: Hocus Pocus
Channel: Doordarshan National TV
Telecast Time: 9.30 am
Date: Saturday, 4th November, 2006

Synopsis:

Hocus Pocus is a story about a little child’s fantasy running wild. Mukul loves to act, and one day his talent is noted by Rajat Roy (an award winning film director). He decides to feature Mukul in one of his children’s fantasy films, where Mukul, would play the child hero who would wipe out the reign of the evil. After a lot of convincing, Mukul’s mother, Malini agrees, and permits Mukul to participate.

One Mukul’s first day at the film sets, he is flabbergasted with the number of people helping and working around. He feels like he’s in a different world altogether. When Rajat introduces him to Michael, the evil magician, Mukul considers him to be a real jadoogar, as his make up and costumes come across very real. Even after much explanation, Mukul refuses to believe that Michael is only an actor.

Mukul’s mind takes a bizarre reasoning, and even during the shoots, he thinks that he actually stands a chance of helping the world survive through the hands of this miscreant. One day Mukul finds Michael talking to his crystal ball in the dressing room. He is shocked, when he hears the crystal ball respond. He decides that it is imperative for him to get his hands on Michael’s wand, in order to save the world. In his attempt to get the wand, he attacks Michael with a knife and a gun. Little did he know that those weapons were fake. After some chase and chaos on the sets, Rajat takes control of the situation, and explains Mukul that he is mistaking Michael for a real jadoogar. Mukul then expresses how he saw Michael talk to the crystal ball, that’s when Michael explains that he was on the speaker phone discussing some dialogues, and the phone was kept beside the crystal ball. At this point everyone is in splits. When Mukul is offered some juice and cake, he refuses. His reasoning being, ‘in films everything is fake , the magician was fake, the knife was fake , the gun was fake , the wand was also fake …what if the food is also fake ?’ The episode ends on this note, where everyone simply can’t stop laughing.

  Episode #8: April Fool
Channel: Doordarshan National TV
Telecast Time: 8 pm to 8.30 pm
Date: Saturday, 11th November, 2006

Synopsis:

April Fool is a story about balancing out culture and modernity. Gauri and her friends are seen discussing holidays after the college exams. They talk about all sorts of things, when Sharmaji, starts telling them how they need to behave themselves, and understand their culture. The kids find him very annoying. When Gauri goes home, she asks her mom as to why Sharmaji is like that. Her mother tries to explain that he’s a bachelor, with no family here, so he must be really lonely. Gauri promises that someday she’ll teach him a lesson, and walks out.

One day Sharmaji leaves the city, and on his way out, tells the watchman to keep a watch on his house, and contact him at anytime, if need be. The kids get curious about his leaving, so Sharmaji tells them he’s going to attend a cousin’s wedding. He then grumbles about marriages, gets into an argument with Gauri, and leaves.

On April Fool’s day, Gauri and her friends are busy playing pranks on just about every passer by, including the watchman. With Gauri’s brilliant idea they decide to play a prank on Sharmaji, even he’s away. Gauri and her friends break into Sharmaji’s house, and with the watchman’s help, move all his belongings elsewhere, leaving an impression of a robbery. The watchman is then made to call Sharmaji, and tell him about his house being robbed, after which Gauri adds more flavour to the story….all giving Sharmaji palpitations. Worried, he decides to get back as soon as possible. On his arrival the kids worry him further, but somehow Sharmaji notices Gauri’s bracelet lying on the floor. Privately, he then gets out the entire story from the watchman.

The next day, Gauri is questioned by the inspector, and she fears getting into trouble. Sharmaji then spills the beans, and tells her how he knew about their prank. Gauri is ashamed. Sharmaji also then tells her that the inspector is his friend in disguise.

The next day, while all the kids are playing, Sharmaji reminds Gauri to apologize; to which Gauri responds, “par aap to sorry sunna hi nahi chaahte… aap ko to angrezi achi nahi lagti aapse to khshama maangni hogi”

Sharma then floors them with his English. He also explains that while it important to move with time, it is important to maintain ones culture.
