Synopsis:
April Fool is a story about balancing out culture and modernity. Gauri and her friends are seen discussing holidays after the college exams. They talk about all sorts of things, when Sharmaji, starts telling them how they need to behave themselves, and understand their culture. The kids find him very annoying. When Gauri goes home, she asks her mom as to why Sharmaji is like that. Her mother tries to explain that he’s a bachelor, with no family here, so he must be really lonely. Gauri promises that someday she’ll teach him a lesson, and walks out.
One day Sharmaji leaves the city, and on his way out, tells the watchman to keep a watch on his house, and contact him at anytime, if need be. The kids get curious about his leaving, so Sharmaji tells them he’s going to attend a cousin’s wedding. He then grumbles about marriages, gets into an argument with Gauri, and leaves.
On April Fool’s day, Gauri and her friends are busy playing pranks on just about every passer by, including the watchman. With Gauri’s brilliant idea they decide to play a prank on Sharmaji, even he’s away. Gauri and her friends break into Sharmaji’s house, and with the watchman’s help, move all his belongings elsewhere, leaving an impression of a robbery. The watchman is then made to call Sharmaji, and tell him about his house being robbed, after which Gauri adds more flavour to the story….all giving Sharmaji palpitations. Worried, he decides to get back as soon as possible. On his arrival the kids worry him further, but somehow Sharmaji notices Gauri’s bracelet lying on the floor. Privately, he then gets out the entire story from the watchman.
The next day, Gauri is questioned by the inspector, and she fears getting into trouble. Sharmaji then spills the beans, and tells her how he knew about their prank. Gauri is ashamed. Sharmaji also then tells her that the inspector is his friend in disguise.
The next day, while all the kids are playing, Sharmaji reminds Gauri to apologize; to which Gauri responds, “par aap to sorry sunna hi nahi chaahte… aap ko to angrezi achi nahi lagti aapse to khshama maangni hogi”
Sharma then floors them with his English. He also explains that while it important to move with time, it is important to maintain ones culture.
