Spreading smiles the kids’ way!
A child’s smile is a reflection of his or her innocence; it’s a smile that needs to be preserved. With this thought, Colgate conducted a story-writing contest for children in 14 cities on the theme ‘Spread a Smile’. The idea was to inculcate good oral practices from an early age. More than 35,000 children from classes VI-X across 450 schools wrote stories on the theme. Twelve winning entries were made into episodes for the TV serial ‘Colgate Muskurahatein’, to be telecast on DD National.
Background:
Colgate Muskurahatein is the signature theme of the Oral Health Month programme that Colgate launched in 2004. It was an innovative event, where Colgate got children from 210 schools across India to pen lyrics on the theme of 'Spread a Smile'. Thirty-six entries were selected and their essence was then captured and compiled into a song by renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar. The trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy composed the music. Colgate unveiled the 'Spread a Smile' song in a programme held in Mumbai on 7th October 2004.
